It now seems like online food ordering platform Swiggy even hops on bicycles to deliver the food you requested, apart from that of deliveries on two-wheeled vehicles. The number of orders delivered on what the platform claims to be “mechanical cycles” are said to be 1.5 million reportedly during the month of March 2019.

This means that the delivery executives, carrying the food you ordered, have been sweating it out on the road – possibly under intense heat & cold conditions as well. Poor guys! Your food potentially could cause hunger arousal in them. Hence the next time your order boxes arrive, see if you could share at least a tenth of the food with the delivery partner, it should not hurt at all!

Now, coming back to Swiggy delivering orders on mechanical cycles, Swiggy’s Srivats TS who is Vice-President of Marketing at the food ordering/delivery platform stated that in certain economies, the travel time for delivery partners was seemingly less on cycles than it was on two-wheeled vehicles. Here, we certainly do not know which cities these are, and the scene in the current metros infested with peak-hour vehicular traffic. The food delivery service is also piloting Electric Vehicles (EV) to encourage adoption among its delivery partners which will reduce running cost by up to 40% and result in higher effective pay-outs

“With the future heading towards more eco-friendly modes of transport, cycle and EV logistics will be the next game changer in food-tech and Swiggy wants to be at the forefront of driving that change,” stated Srivats in a press statement, quoted by IANS.

1.5 Million orders is surely a huge mark – which is said to be achieved by as many as 10000 delivery partners bringing your favourite food. These could well be in the tier-2, and tier-3 economies where vehicular traffic may not be a cause of concern for citizens residing there. This approach undoubtedly contributes to a greener planet; this looks better when combined with electric vehicles which Swiggy is also said to be having an intense interest in
