Social networking giant Facebook is all set to compete with 2018’s breakthrough app Musicl.ly TikTok. Facebook discreetly announced a new app called ‘Lasso’ with the kind of similar features. Lasso is available to download for both Android and iOS users via Google Play Store and Apple App Store respectively. Musicl.ly managed to create an engaging and entertaining app that did not have a false note. The app on Android has over 100 million downloads and is top ranked.

Similar to TikTok, Facebook's Lasso lets users create short videos blessed with filters and effects. They can further share these videos over Facebook’s story feature. Urging users to create viral videos related to trending topics and hashtags, the app wants users to give their own, unique spin by recording yourself. Users can then add special effects, filters, music, text on video and share it publicly. As per The Verge’s report, users can soon add their videos directly over Instagram stories.

Lasso claims to feature several built-in camera tools and effects, in addition to a "massive" music library. The app page on Google Play Store also talks about letting users participate in challenges in order to boost their viewership. From its description, the app resembles Musical.ly TikTok to a great extent. It too has a vast music library to let users create their own music videos using filters and effects.

For the past few months, Facebook is trying hard to win over teenagers who are apparently losing interest in Facebook and spending most of their time using apps like Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok etc. In fact, a previous PewResearch study found out that a shocking number of teenagers have abandoned Facebook in favour of other social media platforms. In a somewhat desperate move to win back the interest of youngsters, Facebook even went on to release a dating app earlier this year to compete with some of the established players such as Tinder, OkCupid, Match.com etc.
