How to check if you are eligible for YouTube Student Membership

According to Google, the student eligibility is determined by SheerID. Once your account is SheerID verified, you can check what student plans are available for you to purchase. Enter your institution details on the SheerID form. First things first, you need to be verified as a student by SheerID. You can start the process by sending an email to SheerID at customerservice@sheerid.com. Google says if you meet all the eligibility requirements for a membership, you will be eligible for up to four years of student membership. However, you will be required to re-verify your eligibility every year.

How to avail YouTube Student Membership benefits

Once you have a valid student membership, you can avail discounts at the time of subscribing to either YouTube Music or YouTube Premium or both. If you already have a standard YouTube Music or YouTube Premium subscription, you will have to cancel that before you can avail student membership benefits.

Step 1: Visit youtube.com/musicpremium/student on your computer or mobile web browser and select 'Try it free.'

Step 2: Follow on-screen instructions to complete verification with SheerID.

Step 3: Once SheerID determines your eligibility, you will be redirected to YouTube sign-up process.

Step 4: Select the payment method or add a new payment method. Click 'Buy' to complete the transaction.

A similar process is applicable while subscribing to YouTube Premium. All you need to do is go to youtube.com/premium/student instead.
