YouTube first rolled out parental control features for kids' accounts back in 2021. At the time, the company had introduced supervised Google Accounts for pre-teen kids enabling parents to restrict access to control access to content, settings and even screentime. Today, the company announced a feature that builds on the supervised Google Accounts and gives parents more control over the accounts of their teenager kids.
YouTube today announced a feature called 'Family Center Hub' for parents. The Family Center Hub will house settings that will let parents link their own YouTube accounts with their kids' YouTube accounts. This, in turn, will enable them to supervise their kids better.
"...weāre introducing a new supervised experience on YouTube that will give parents and teens the option to link their accounts and get shared insights and notifications," YouTube wrote in a blog post announcing the development.
"This new experience is designed to keep parents informed about their teens' channel activity on YouTube and help them provide encouragement and advice on responsible content creation," the company added.
What is YouTube's new Family Center Hub?
As mentioned before, the Family Center Hub will enable parents to link their YouTube accounts with the YouTube accounts of their teenage kids. Once the two accounts have been linked, parents will get insights into their teensā activity on the video streaming platform. The insights will include details such as the channels to which their kids have subscribed to, comments on their kids' videos and even the number of video uploads made by their kids.
YouTube said that parents and their teenager kids will also receive email notifications from YouTube when they upload a video or start a livestream on the platform. Parents will get a notification even if their teenager kids upload a video that is private and unlisted. Additionally, YouTube will notify parents if their kids change the video privacy settings in their YouTube accounts.
When will YouTube's new Family Center Hub be available?
YouTube says that it will start rolling out the Family Centre Hub to families globally this week. It will be available to users in the coming days.
