Gemini Live update: Google today hosted the 10th edition of Google for India event in New Delhi. At the event, Google announced a major update for its Gemini Live mobile assistant. The company today announced that it is rolling out support for Hindi to its on-mobile Gemini Live AI assistant. With this update, smartphone users will be able to interact with Gemini Live in Hindi, just as they do in case of English.

In addition to this, the company announced that it will roll out support for eight more Indian languages to Gemini Live in the coming months. The list of supported languages includes Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Urdu.

"Whether it’s brainstorming or a practice session for your next job interview, have free-flowing conversations with Gemini Live, now rolling out in Hindi," Google Search's GM for Health, Hema Budaraju said at the event.

For the unversed, Gemini Live is a smartphone-based artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot that enables users to interact with Google's Gemini AI model. The company has announced Gemini Live back in August this year. “You can keep talking with the Gemini app in the background or when your phone is locked, so you can carry on your conversation on the go, just like you might on a regular phone call,” it had said while announcing the on-device AI chatbot. However, at the time, Gemini Live was available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers in English. But now, Google has expanded support to Hindi. However, it remains to be seen if the feature will be restricted to Gemini Advanced users or if the company will make the feature available generally to all users.
