Delhi Pollution: How to check real-time AQI in your area using Google Maps
Google Maps has a feature that enables users to check air quality index in their area in or the area they are commuting to in real-time.
Check real-time AQI using Google Maps: Air quality in the northern parts of India is deteriorating fast with the AQI crossing the 450 mark in the national capital. While the government is taking active measures to lower down the pollution levels, air quality continues to remain a cause of concern for people in the north, especially around the National Capital Region.
There are many apps in the market that show air quality index and other related details to users in real time. Beyond these dedicated apps, commuters can also use Google Maps to plan their travel. Here is a detailed guide using which Google Maps users can check the AQI in the area where they are planning to travel to in real time.
Google Maps AQI colour coding explained
AQI ranging between 0 and 50 is marked in Green and it indicates that the air quality is good. The AQI ranging between 51 and 100 is indicated by a slightly lighter green colour and it indicates that the air quality is satisfactory. AQI ranging between 101 and 200 is marked in Yellow and it indicates that the air is moderately polluted air.
On the other hand, AQI ranging between 201 to 300 is highlighted in orange and it indicates poor air quality, while red colour on the map indicates very poor air quality with AQI ranging between 301 and 400. A blood red colour on the map indicates severe air quality with the AQI ranging 401 and above.
How to check real-time AQI in Google Maps Android, iOS apps
Step 1: Open the Google Maps app on Android phone or iPhone.
Step 2: In the search bar on top, type in the name of the area for which you want to check the air quality index.
Step 3: Tap the exact location in map to drop the location pin.
Step 4: Tap the Layer icon on top. It is placed right under the search bar.
Step 5: Tap the Air Quality icon at the bottom.
On doing so, users will be able to see the range of air quality index on the location that they have highlighted on the map.
How to check real-time AQI in Google Maps on web
Step 1: Open a web browser on your PC.
Step 2: Open Google Maps in the web browser.
Step 3: In the search bar on the top, type the location for which you want to check the realt-time AQI.
Step 4: Click the Layers icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5: Click on the More icon.
Step 6: Click on the Air Quality icon to check the air quality in real-time.
