CES 2019: Toilets Integrated with Amazon Alexa Come To The Fore; Is AI Integration Really Required Here?
The CES 2019 has witnessed multiple smarter prototype,s but the smartest from what has transpired could be smart toilets from Kohler that is integrated with Amazon Alexa. No, what sort of interactions happen with the PDA within a toilet is certainly not worth addressing at this point. The hardware is termed Kohler Numi 2.0 “Intelligent” toilet.
There is functionality that the Numi 2.0 smart toilet offers users, these are:
- Water efficiency
- Heated seat
- Personal Cleansing
- Custom-made functionality such as drying
Along with these, the Numi 2.0 setup is also claimed to consist of audio enhancements and lighting effects. Now, smarter products are definitely welcome, but a toilet setup with voice-controlled functions need evaluation in the real-world considering the fact that toilets are considered as matters of personal privacy.
Here, it is also worth noting how Alexa integration fits in within toilets; as far as water efficiency is concerned, it is naturally up to users to maintain these aspects; hence, we think that it may not require a PDA to intervene and dynamically teach users to use water judiciously.
At this juncture, there are widespread discussions on the potential side-effects of AI-obsession; smart toilets with Amazon Alexa integration could potentially be one of these. It would have done no arm for Kohler to have customized smart water solutions for usage by the wider global community. With global warming at an all-time high, it only makes sense to conserve and harvest water; especially rainwater; s that future generations can lay their hands on the elixir of life; rather than experience voice integration within toilets.
The CES 209 which is currently underway has witnessed a multitude of launches catering to the consumer technology enthusiast community. These Include the likes of LG 88-inch monitor, custom gaming monitors, HTC Vive VR gear, and even foldable/bendable smartphone display showcase.
