After Xiaomi and OnePlus, Huawei subsidiary Honor is also gearing to enter India’s burgeoning smart TV market. Honor has confirmed that it will launch its Honor Vision smart TV in India in Q1 2020, after “unveiling” the product at the India Mobile Congress. The Honor Vision is available in standard and pro models with the latter also getting a pop-up selfie camera.

“We are delighted to unveil the Honor Vision smart screen in India. As a part of our long-term commitment towards India, we are working towards creating a larger ecosystem of products that can fulfil the aspirations of the discerning Indian consumer. We look forward to making Honor Vision available for the consumers soon and have them experience the future of television,” Charles Peng, president, Honor India said in a statement.

Honor Vision coming to India in Q1 2020

Honor launched the Honor Vision smart TV at its developer conference 2019 in China in August. Not only is it Honor’s first smart screen product, it also packs several technologies – like the pop-up camera module - that set it apart from other smart TVs. But its biggest highlight is that the Honor Vision smart TV is the world’ first product to run Huawei’s home-grown HarmonyOS operating system.

Huawei's HarmonyOS is a microkernel-based, distributed operating system for all scenarios - smartphones, laptops, wearables, basically all connected devices, and is the company’s home-grown answer to Google’s Android designed to “deliver a cohesive user experience across all devices and user scenarios.” The operating system was announced in the aftermath of the recent US trade clampdown that bars US-based companies like Google to engage in trade with Huawei. This means, among other things, that Huawei can’t use Google’s Android in all its totality.

Huawei has confirmed that it would use HarmonyOS in its smartphones in the worst-case scenario. In the meantime, we will see other connected devices like the Honor Vision, taking things forward with regards to its home-grown OS.

The Honor Vision is essentially a 55-inch 4K HDR TV with a full-view design (Honor claims a screen-to-body ratio of a whopping 94 per cent) and a 6.9mm full metal frame. The Pro model of the smart TV also gets a pop-up selfie camera. Huawei is really touting the Honor Vision’s Honghu 818 Intelligent Display Chipset that seemingly “enhances and optimizes image resolution, contrast and color performance through multiple algorithms."
