HTC on Thursday introduced Vive Cosmos VR headset that will be up for grabs starting next month. To recall, HTC's PC-powered VR headset was initially unveiled at CES 2019. The successor to the original Vive, the Cosmos VR doesn't require external sensors. It also uses fully tracked motion controllers. Specs-wise, HTC's new Vive Cosmos VR also supports an LCD panel featuring 2,880 x 1,770 resolution. It offers a 110-degree field of view. Cosmos supports inside-out tracking mechanism. It also includes flip-up goggles, So, you need not remove the entire headset when on a break from VR.
In what could be a significant addition, Cosmos includes a modular faceplate to let users customise the headset eventually with extra functionality. HTC previously hinted Cosmos could be linked with a smartphone in the future. Now, HTC is launching an External Tracking Mod to let users use Cosmos with existing Lighthouse base stations. This way, you can get full 360-degree tracking and support for Vive Tracker. HTC has also expanded the compatibility of Cosmos to Vive Wireless Adapter.
