Samsung has launched the Galaxy M40 in India – its fourth Galaxy M-series phone to date. The Galaxy M40 may be a Galaxy M phone, but it’s nothing like the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 or Galaxy M30 before it. The Galaxy M40 borrows key design and hardware elements from Samsung’s more expensive Galaxy S and Galaxy A-series phones, but being a Galaxy M phone means, it brings those features to the budget segment.
The Galaxy M40 has a punch-hole design, a Snapdragon 600-series processor, triple rear cameras and fast charging – it also runs Samsung’s new One UI software. All this make the Galaxy M40 an interesting package, worthy of standing toe-to-toe with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro and Realme 3 Pro – the Galaxy M40 will also have Samsung’s own Galaxy A50 to contend with.
Let’s take a closer look at Samsung’s Galaxy M40 and everything that it brings to the table.
-- The USP feature of the Galaxy M40 is its punch-hole display. The Galaxy M40, is in fact, the cheapest phone that you can get with a punch-hole display – a design choice that allows Samsung to offer nearly 91 per cent of screen-to-body ratio in a slim and light chassis.
-- Well until the Galaxy M40 happened, the punch-hole display was limited to Samsung’s top-tier Galaxy S10 phones in India – Samsung calls the setup as Infinity-O. The Galaxy M40 changes that.
-- Samsung is touting the Galaxy M40 as an entertainment powerhouse on the back of its 6.3-inch 1080p+ TFT LCD display that’s nearly edge to edge.
-- The screen of the Galaxy M40 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
-- Samsung is using its 3D ‘glasstic’ design in the Galaxy M40 - which essentially means that the phone is made of plastic with glossy finish. Samsung is using different colour schemes though which make the Galaxy M40 stand out a little – the phone will be available in Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue gradient colours.
-- The Galaxy M40 is also Widevine L1-certified which means it can stream HD content from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
-- The Galaxy M40 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which is also expandable via a hybrid micro-SD card slot.
-- The dual SIM Galaxy M40 runs Android 9 Pie-based One UI - same software that's inside Samsung's flagship Galaxy S10 phones. The Galaxy M40 is the first Galaxy M-series phone to run One UI out-of-the-box.
-- The Galaxy M40 packs a 3,500mAh battery with 15W fast charging through USB Type-C.
-- There’s no headphone jack, but Samsung is bundling USB Type-C earphones in the box.
-- The Galaxy M40 comes with three rear cameras consisting of one 32MP sensor (Samsung GD1 sensor for effective 8MP photos) with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Galaxy M40 comes with a 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
-- Samsung has launched the Galaxy M40 in India at a price of Rs 19,990. The Galaxy M40 will be available for buying online-only from Amazon India and Samsung’s own e-store from June 18.
