iPhone 11 will reportedly pack new taptic engine, A13 chip and lightning port 

Apple will soon launch its next-generation iPhones and more and more information seems to be trickling in about the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR successors courtesy rumor mills. A new report now suggests that the upcoming iPhone 11 – which will again have three models – will be powered by Apple’s new A13 chip which is apparently codenamed Cebu with model number T8030. The new iPhone 11 model numbers have also been reported - D42 will replace the iPhone XS, D43 will replace the iPhone XS Max and N104 will replace the iPhone XR. 

All the three new models will reportedly have the same screen size and resolution as the outgoing models – with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors retaining OLED panels, while the iPhone XR successor will still pack LCD. Apple maybe looking to switch to all-OLED only in 2020.  

While under the hood changes to core hardware is a given, it is interesting to see Apple looking to change the haptics as well. Although the exact functionality of the new taptic engine is unknown, chances are it would bring some changes to Apple’s haptic touch – the new engine is apparently called leap haptics internally.  

The current-generation iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both have the same dual rear cameras. Their successors are said to sport three rear cameras. The third sensor in the iPhone XS (and iPhone XS Max) successor will reportedly be wide-angle and will be also able to “capture more pixels so Apple software could, for example, automatically repair a video or photo to fit in a subject that may have been accidentally cut off from the initial shot,” according to a recent Bloomberg report. The new report suggests that the feature may be called smart frame and it may be exclusive to the wide-angle lens. 

The front-facing camera is also said to be getting an update on the iPhone 11 with the ability to support slow-motion video recording at 120fps. 

The next iPhone is also said to stick with Lightning for charging, data syncing and audio out, and not USB Type-C.
