According to new research conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), lower price point and features of the iPhone XR attract current Android users. The study is based on the outcome of the research conducted over the period of 30 days after Apple launched the iPhone XR in October 2018.

According to CIRP study, the new iPhone XR accounted for 32% of total iPhones sold in the U.S. while Apple iPhone XS and XS Max together accounted for 35% in the 30-day period.

The study gathered some interesting facts when it comes to Android users. As per the study, Among iPhone buyers this year, 82 per cent upgraded from an iPhone while 16 per cent upgraded from an Android phone.

Last year when Apple launched its tenth-anniversary special iPhone X, 86 per cent users upgraded from an iPhone while 11 per cent upgraded from Android. Before Apple launched the iPhone X, 87% upgraded to iPhone 8 and 8 Plus from an iPhone whereas 12 per cent upgraded from Android.

Commenting on the outcome of the study, Mike Levin, CIRP partner and co-founder, had this to say:

“It appears that iPhone XR did serve to attract current Android users.”

He further added:

“Of course, Apple doesn’t just state plainly its launch strategy. But, based on the pricing and features, we can infer that Apple positioned the iPhone XR to appeal to potential operating systems switchers from Android.”
