Nokia 8110 whose price in India is nearly Rs 4500 has received WhatsApp support as expected, now post this development, would the feature phone compete with the Jio Phone 2 range of 4G + WhatsApp-enabled feature phones? How about the Nokia 8110 4G competing even with the recent Redmi Go Android Go smartphone (not feature phone)?

Another probable competitor to Xiaomi Redmi Go?

With the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone - potentially costing more than the Xiaomi Redmi Go smartphone (priced at Rs 4500), it is only natural for buyers to ponder about being spoilt for choice as far as buying the phone is concerned. Here, which would be your choice, the Redmi Go or the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone?.

Now, keep in mind the fact that today WhatsApp has already fallen into the”most desirable” category as far as using applications for essential activity such as communication is concerned.  This is the reason why even feature phones (with Kai OS) are being seeded with the popular instant messaging application.

The recently launched Redmi Go also supports WhatsApp, on the Android Go platform but offers generally low-end hardware and technical specifications. You see, Android Go is designed for low-end smartphones, hence, this cannot be counted as a mistake on the part of Xiaomi. Though affordable at Rs 4500, there is every possibility that buyers could shell out four Grands more to buy a smartphone like the Oppo A3S, Realme 3, and even Xiaomi’s own Redmi/Mi iterations - some of which offer top-notch specifications and and technology that is designed for both general everyday usage as well as high-end usage (games, business usage, et al).

As far as buying a smartphone for pure general everyday usage is concerned - calls, messaging, and basic internet, we see nothing wrong with a reliable feature phone which could fulfil these needs effectively. Here, remember that Nokia as a brand has been known in India as a “reliable” device; now, after its HMD Global avatar, there have even been a slew of Android smartphones which are finding a place amongst the recommendations of retailers (physical).

With even the WhatsApp messenger having made its way to the Nokia 8110 “Banana” phone, we see nothing wrong in availing a phone that offers a pure experience for general everyday use rather than buy a smartphone with low-end hardware and thereby develop desires to check out incompatible games and face disappointment. If a phone has to be bought for general use, then the perfect choice could potentially be a general use phone and the Nokia 8110 could do well to constitute an effective device.
