For those unaware, Redmi is now an independent sub-brand of Xiaomi – sort of like Poco. While Redmi phones in the past have always been about insane value for money, new-age Redmi phones will seemingly focus on bringing even more high-end specs at affordable prices. Redmi has been teasing its first true-blue flagship phone that will supposedly pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 inside for a while now – and now the company has announced a new performance driven K-series of phones that will be all about ‘killer’ specs. The Redmi K20 will be the first phone in the K-series – this is the true-blue flagship phone that Redmi has been teasing all this while.
Redmi chief Lu Weibing has been dropping Easter eggs with regards to its Redmi Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 flagship phone on Weibo revealing key aspects of the phone in question – although rumor has it that Redmi may be working on not one, but two flagship phones and one of them could end up becoming the Poco F2 for India. That phone may be called the Redmi K20 Pro, but because Redmi is yet to confirm the existence of such a product, we suggest you take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.
As for the K20, Redmi has already confirmed that the phone in question will be optimized for gaming and boast of two-day battery life. The K20 will be also eligible for Android Q beta at launch which means early adopters will be able to try out Google’s latest and greatest software on it alongside Pixel users.
Rumored specs of the Redmi flagship phone include a 6.39-inch screen with a 2340x1080p resolution, triple rear cameras consisting of one 48MP primary sensor, a 13MP sensor (possibly wide-angle) and an 8MP sensor (possibly telephoto), and a 32MP front camera. The K20 is said to come in as many as four configurations - 6GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, and three colours – red, blue and carbon fibre.
In other news, Xiaomi India has announced that it will launch a new 48MP camera phone in the country in the days to come. Although Xiaomi doesn’t say whether the upcoming phone will be Redmi Note 7 Pro-like (Sony IMX586) or Redmi Note 7-like (Samsung GM1) when it comes to the imaging sensor, it has stressed that it will be a 48MP camera phone for everyone – which invariably means, it will be super affordable. Xiaomi has been also teasing the launch of a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 700-powered phone in India soon. Whether the two phones are the same (or not) is something only time will tell.
