Samsung is apparently gearing to show off a ‘fully functional’ foldable Galaxy phone during its February 20 Unpacked keynote. A couple of key hardware specs of the alleged Samsung Galaxy Fold have surfaced online ahead of its formal unveiling: including whopping 12GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage. A key concern however seems to be battery capacity, if the leaked data is anything to go by.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will reportedly pack two 2,200mAh batteries which entails in a total battery capacity of 4,400mAh. This is significantly lower than the 6,200mAh number which was previously being reported. A device of the scale of the Samsung Galaxy Fold would seemingly require as much juice as possible, and 4,200mAh doesn’t exactly sound very impressive considering that Samsung is already working on a Samsung Galaxy M for India with a massive 5,000mAh battery. Regardless, the 4,200mAh figure is still better than what you get on Samsung’s current-generation top-tier Galaxy Note 9 (4,000mAh).

Samsung reportedly showed off its foldable Galaxy phone to a few customers behind closed doors at CES 2019. The company did not apparently opt for a broader showcase – at CES 2019 – seemingly because the product was not ready for prime-time. There were alleged structural issues with the folding process. The prototype, which was also possibly shown off at CES 2019, was seen leaving a crease when folded into its single-hand mode Which invariably means, it would just split into two at some point of time.

Samsung is now working to fix the issue and should be able to iron out the chinks ahead of Unpacked 2019 where it will also announce the Galaxy S10 line-up of devices. Samsung is expected to start selling its foldable Galaxy phone sometime in H1 2019 but because the device would be so very difficult to make, only limited quantities – reportedly about a million units – will be made available for buying.

The Galaxy Fold will give users access to two categories of devices: a 7.3-inch primary tablet kind and a smaller 4.58-inch phone form factor: in one device.
