Samsung is upping the ante against competition, namely Xiaomi, Oppo/Realme, Huawei/Honor and others, this year. The company is gearing to launch as many as three new India-first Galaxy M-series phones in the days to come, and a new report now suggests that Samsung is also readying as many as nine Galaxy A phones for India (and China). While the Galaxy M-series will cater to budget conscious buyers, the Galaxy A-series will likely hover around the mid-range price segment.

The Galaxy A is significant in many ways. Samsung has shown intent that it is no longer going to limit flagship innovations to its more premiere Galaxy S and Galaxy Note line-up. It will bring them to a relatively more mainstream price segment through its Galaxy A phones first from time to time. The Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A8 are classic examples. While the Galaxy A7 comes with three rear cameras, the Galaxy A8 is Samsung’s first Galaxy phone to pack four rear cameras. There’s also the Galaxy A8s that is Samsung’s first phone to ship with a punch-hole selfie cam.

It seems the Galaxy A7, Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8s were just the tip of the iceberg as nine more Galaxy A devices are reportedly in development and Samsung is looking to launch them in the first half of 2019. The nine models are codenamed SM-A105, SM-A202, SM-A205, SM-A260, SM-A305, SM-A405, SM-A505, SM-A705 and SM-A905. Sadly, that is all we know about them for now. There is no word on hardware specs, nor design. That said, Samsung has been rumoured to launch a Lite version of the Galaxy A8s in April, that will reportedly be called the Galaxy A60. The Galaxy A60 could be one of the nine devices expected from Samsung.

The Galaxy M line-up will meanwhile mean the end of the Galaxy J and Galaxy On-series.

This means, going forward, Samsung will broadly have two mass market series of devices: Galaxy M and Galaxy A. While the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note will be its flagship line-ups.
