Xiaomi’s Redmi 8A has leaked online via certification website TENAA giving a first-hand look at the design of the phone as well as a few hardware specs. The phone in question is set to get a more modern design with a waterdrop-style notch on the front – the Redmi 6A comes with a thick bezel at the top and bottom. The camera setup on the back also sees a change. It is now located centrally as opposed to the Redmi 6A where it was located on the left. There’s still a single camera on the back and no fingerprint scanner – like the Redmi 6A. It’s said to get a bigger 6.2-inch display as well if the TENAA listing is anything to go by.
Xiaomi’s Redmi A-series has been immensely popular in India. The series caters to fist-time smartphone users who’re looking to make a switch from a feature phone – without burning a hole in their pocket. The Redmi 6A was the best-selling phone in India in Q1 2019, according to data released by Counterpoint Research and the Redmi 7A is a good upgrade to it. Something similar will be expected from the Redmi 8A as well.

Xiaomi has made some India-specific upgrades to the Redmi 7A making it even more appealing. Unlike the Redmi 7A China variant, the Redmi 7A sold in India comes with a 12MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX486 image sensor. Plus, the Redmi 7A India variant also comes with a built-in antenna for wireless FM radio playback. Xiaomi also offers a 2-year warranty on the Redmi 7A – which is a first for any Xiaomi product in India.
Speaking of specs, the Redmi 7A comes with a 5.45-inch 720p+ LCD display and an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor under the hood paired with up to 2GB RAM and up to 32GB storage. The phone runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 software and packs a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. There’s a sizeable 4,000mAh battery inside and micro-USB port for charging and data syncing. The Redmi 7A comes with a 5MP front camera.
The Redmi 7A starts at Rs 5,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, going all the way to Rs 6,199 for the top-end variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.
