The Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 phones are coming to India in exactly 8 weeks from now, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain has confirmed. Which in simpler terms means that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 phones in India by the end of October – possibly around the festival of Diwali. “We'll do our best to bring them to India asap! However, certification & testing might take ~8 weeks,” Manu Jain wrote on Twitter soon after the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 reveal in China.
Even though Realme tried to steal its thunder, Xiaomi has become the world’s first brand to formally launch a smartphone equipped with a 64MP camera – aka the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Realme is also gearing to launch its own 64MP camera toting Realme XT phone in India by Diwali, just so you know. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is also the first smartphone in the world to pack MediaTek’s newly announced Helio G90T processor – the Realme XT will meanwhile be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 712, much like the Realme 5 Pro.
Speaking of core specs, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 6.53-inch 1080p+ IPS LCD display with Xiaomi’s dot-notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as on the back. The processor inside, as mentioned earlier, is the Helio G90T which is paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. Software inside is Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10. The Redmi Note 8 Pro further comes with a 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging through USB Type-C.

On to the cameras, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a four-camera setup on the rear consisting of a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP macro lens. That main camera uses Samsung’s 64MP GW1 sensor that can shoot 16MP photos by default and 64MP photos through software interpolation. On the front, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 20MP camera.
As for the vanilla Redmi Note 8, the phone has a 6.39-inch 1080p+ display with Xiaomi’s dot notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front as well as on the back, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor paired with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage, a 48MP main plus 8MP ultra-wide plus 2MP depth plus 2MP macro quad rear camera setup, a 13MP front camera, and a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging.
China pricing of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi Note 8 are quite similar to the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7 – something similar would be expected in terms of India pricing as well.
