Xiaomi sells 20 lakh Redmi Note 7-series phones in 2 months, new affordable 48MP camera phone incoming
While announcing the sales feat, Xiaomi has also teased the upcoming launch of another 48MP camera phone in India in the days to come
Xiaomi has sold 20 lakh Redmi Note 7-series phones in India in two months. The Redmi Note 7-series consists of two value-for-money budget phones, the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro were launched in India on February 28. The main USP of the Redmi 7-series phones is their camera, and even though both phones pack different primary sensors, the collective resolution amounts to 48MP – which is a first for any phone at their respective price point.
While announcing the sales feat, Xiaomi has also teased the upcoming launch of another 48MP camera phone in India in the days to come. Although Xiaomi doesn’t say whether the upcoming phone will be Redmi Note 7 Pro-like or Redmi Note 7-like when it comes to the image sensor, it has stressed that it will be a 48MP camera phone for everyone – which invariably means, it will be super affordable. Much like any other Xiaomi phone.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro starts at Rs 13,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, while the top-end variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage costs Rs 16,999. The Redmi Note 7 meanwhile starts at Rs 9,999 for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, going all the way to Rs 11,999 for the top end version with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
No further details have been shared, but the announcement comes days after Xiaomi had teased a certain phone based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 700-series processor, also set to arrive in India soon. Whether the two phones are the same, or whether Xiaomi is looking to launch stand-alone devices, one with a 48MP camera and another with a Snapdragon 700-series processor, is something only time will tell.
Regardless, 48MP seems to be the hot new buzz word when it comes to smartphone cameras these days. Of course, sensors may vary (Sony IMX586 versus Samsung GM1), but whatever be the case, megapixel count has suddenly become the talk of the town. The OnePlus 7 Pro, which is set to launch in India on May 14, will also pack a 48MP main camera.
