Google Chrome adds new performance controls to improve browsing
The new performance monitoring features are now available in Google Chrome on both Windows and macOS.
Google Chrome is adding new controls to allow users to monitor the web browser’s performance. The leading web browser has introduced a new performance detection tool, a new set of memory-saver modes, and better personalisation controls for performance. Users will also see options to choose the right memory saver mode for their browser, disable existing visual indicators for inactive tabs and memory usage, and turn off performance detection.
Performance detection
Using the new performance detection tool, Google Chrome users will see the browser highlighting performance issues in a website, along with solutions. A performance metre located in the top right corner will alert users if the browser is facing issues with a website’s performance or if the browser’s overall performance is impacted. Google Chrome will offer a ‘fix now’ button that will speed up browsing by deactivating resource-hungry tabs.
Memory Savers
Google Chrome will offer users different ways to save memory while browsing. There are three modes – Moderate, Balanced, and Maximum. While the Moderate memory-saver mode will deactivate tabs based on the system requirements, the Balance mode takes the user’s browsing habits into account over and above the system needs to determine which tabs to deactivate. The Maximum mode deactivates tabs almost instantly after the user has stopped using them, leaving more memory free for web browsing.
More personalisation
While Google Chrome is offering a slew of preset functionalities to let users monitor the browser’s performance, it will also let them personalise performance controls. Users can add exceptions to the list of websites that need optimisation, so that they run freely in the background. Google Chrome will not apply performance issue fixes to the websites not part of the list, giving users more control over how they want to browse the internet.
The new performance monitoring features are now available in Google Chrome on both Windows and macOS. However, its Android and iOS counterparts do not have these capabilities yet.
