Reddit faces second major outage in two days

Reddit outage: Reddit faced a second major outage on Thursday evening with thousands of users across the globe being unable to access its website and mobile app. This is the second major outage the platform is facing in two days. According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, the second outage began at around 8:15PM IST on November 21 and it has affected over 72,000 users across the globe so far.

Reddit has also acknowledged the outage by updating its Status Page wherein the company wrote that it is aware of the matter and that it is investigating the matter. “We are currently investigating a problem with our site,” Reddit's support page said at the time of writing this story.

Reddit's second major outage in two days

As mentioned before, this is the second major outage that the company has faced in two days. The first outage began at around 12PM PT on November 20 with users reporting issues with the platform's speed. In addition to this, Reddit users had also reported issues in loading the comments and site's accessibility. Some users had also reported seeing the error page while trying to open the site. At the peak of the outage on November 20, around 50,000 people had reported facing issues with the site. 

The issue was fixed at around 8:08PM PT on November 20 after the company rolled out a fix for a software bug that prevented tens of thousands of people from accessing the social media platform on Wednesday, according to Reddit.

Later, the company via a post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle detailed the issue that led to the widespread outage. “There was a bug in a recent update we made, but a fix is in place and we're ramping back up,” Reddit wrote in its post on X. The company, however, is yet to comment on its most recent outage.

Reddit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
