After Google Chrome for macOS is confirmed to receive a dark mode update sometime this year, Google is also preparing to release a similar feature on Chrome for Windows 10. Apple enabled system-wide dark mode with macOS 10.14 Mojave.

Following in the footsteps of Apple, Microsoft also enabled system-wide dark mode with Windows 10 October 2018 update turning it on for apps like Office. Now, it’s time for Google to provide Chrome for Windows 10 users with a similar update putting it on par with Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox.

Testers can try out a new dark mode in Chrome Canary starting today. A bug report reveals Google Chrome for Windows 10 has been working on embracing dark mode since at least May 2017.

According to comments found in Chromium’s Gerrit source code management, Microsoft’s Windows 10 was supported to receive dark mode update alongside macOS, according to reports. However, developers reportedly had to pause the progress due to certain flaws.

Google Chrome Canary’s feature is available for Windows including older versions such as Windows 7.

The dark mode can be enabled by navigating to Chrome Canary shortcut > Properties > Add “ –force-dark-mode.” Since the feature is currently in testing, we don’t know for sure when it will go live for all Google Chrome for Windows 10 users.
