Google now lets users chat with their friends through 'Messages for Web' by showing all their conversation from its mobile app. Since it uses a connection from your computer to your phone, you will still bear all your SMS charges.

Similar to WhatsApp Web, users have to pair their mobile app to their PC by scanning the QR code. Pairing can be done across multiple devices. However, only one device or browser tab will be active at a time.

How to get started with Google Messages for Web

  1. Download the latest version of Messages app on your phone
  2. Make sure you have an active data or Wi-Fi connection.
  3. You need one of these browsers on your PC: Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge.
  4. Make sure your PC is connected to the Internet.

How to set up Google Messages for Web

  1. Open Messages app on your Android phone.
  2. Go to More > Messages for Web.
  3. Open https://messages.google.com/web on your PC.
  4. Scan QR code using Messages app

How to make Messages default messaging app

  1. Open Messages app on your phone.
  2. Change your default messaging app to Messages when prompted.
  3. Follow all the on-screen instructions.

How to remember login on Web

  1. Open Messages app on your Android phone.
  2. Go to More > Messages for Web.
  3. Open https://messages.google.com/web on your PC.
  4. Switch the slider “Remeber this computer.”

Upon receiving a new, unread message, the Messages icon in your browser tab will show a red notification and the number of unread messages. Messages for Web supports Dark mode. Go to Messages for Web > Tap More > Settings > Turn on Enable dark theme or High contrast mode.

How to sign out of Messages for Web

You can sign out of Messages for Web if you want to prevent other people from seeing your messages when you are not around your PC. If you are on your computer, go to Messages for Web > More > Sign out. 

If you want to sign out from Messages for Android, tap More >Messages for Web > Choose where to sign out. If you have logged in to multiple computers, you can sign out of a specific computer by tapping Delete > Sign out.
