Today marks the end of ‘Inbox by Gmail’ journey, four years after it was introduced. Google’s ‘Inbox by Gmail’ is officially shutting down today, April 2nd. In fact, earlier we reported that Google has revealed its plan to put an end to ‘Inbox by Gmail’ on its official website.
What started off as priority-focused, standalone email service by Google in 2015. The Inbox by Gmail had been around for a quite long and this is certainly not the end of yet another Google service for being unable to show results. Over the years, Google has re-introduced all its features to Gmail so that loyal Inbox users won’t miss out on anything long after it’s gone, except for the branding, of course.
Well, Inbox has Gmail has played a really important in shaping up Google’s email service. Many of the modern-day features of Gmail, such as Smart reply, Hover actions, Follow-ups and Snooze were originally introduced with Inbox by Gmail. In the meantime, it allowed Google to receive feedback on how users’ interact with these features and bring changes to the main Gmail platform accordingly.
Back in 2014, Google CEO Sundar Pichai who was then senior vice president for Android, Chrome and Apps made a clear distinction between Inbox and Gmail. He said that Inbox by Gmail is a completely different type of inbox that only concentrates on things that really matter.
Meanwhile, this is what Google has to say on the official landing page of Inbox by Gmail:
“Inbox is signing off. Find your favourite features in the new Gmail. We are saying goodbye to Inbox at the end of March 2019. While we were here, we found a new way to email with ideas like snooze, nudges, Smart Reply and more. That’s why we’ve brought your favourite features to Gmail to help you get more done. All your conversations are already waiting for you. See you there.”
