PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has finally won the Game of The Year 2018 award on Steam, an honor which its mobile version PUBG Mobile was hugely expected to bag during the recent Game Awards 2018. This should offer the game's loyalists multiple things to cheer about considering the fact that countries like India have seriously given the game both a thumbs-up as well as thumbs-down.
Now, the Steam community has reportedly decided that PUBG was their favourite game in the last year. The Steam Awards are decided based on votes from the global Steam Community. The award on Steam is also a seemingly morale-booster for PUBG, as the game has seen intense competition from the likes of other battle royale titles such as Fortnite, and now Apex Legends; the latter having reportedly clocked up 10 million players in 72 hours, despite a quiet launch without the usual fanfare.
If PUBG won the Steam Awards for the Game Of 2018, the other winners across categories include the likes of:
- The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim VR - The VR Game of 2018
- Grand Theft Auto 5 - Labor of Love
- Rocket League - Most Fun With A Machine
- Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Best Alternate History
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Best Environment
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege - Better With Friends
Alongside the above, CD Projekt Red bagged the Best Game Developer trophy at the Steam Awards.
With respect to PUBG, the “redemption factor” also comes into play. With this, would it be fair to state, that the much-expected Update 0.11.0 to PUBG Mobile would get to see the light of the day with respect to seeding in a full version format, very soon?
