Snapchat introduced its long-awaited gaming platform called ‘Snap Games’ at its partner summit. Aimed at mobile users, Snapchat users can launch Snap Games from the chat bar and play with your friends instantly in real time. Interestingly, Snapchat users don’t have to install anything other than Snapchat itself and Snap Games comes integrated with the main platform rather than forcing its users to install a standalone app, which is sensible.
Snap Games allows users to see who they are playing with and text them or even talk to them using voice chat in real time. Most importantly, the way Snap Games us integrated right into Snapchat is what makes things really interesting. This is how Snap Inc. describes Snap Games to the world:
“It feels like you’re sitting shoulder to shoulder, playing on the same screen.”
Initially, Snap Games has six titles to offer: Bitmoji Party, Tiny Royale, Snake Squad, C.A.T.S. Drift Race, Zombie rescue Squad and Alphabear Hustle. To begin with, Bitmoji Party lets users play as themselves in a series of what they call “quick, wacky mini-games.” Tiny Royale is a battle royale game by Zynga that wants you to squad up with friends and eliminate your competition.
Snake Squad by Game Closure is again a multiplayer battle-royale game. You can choose your favourite avatar and show your snake a way around the battlefield and eliminate your opponents. ZeptoLab’s C.A.T.S. Drift Race is a multiplayer racing game where you can invite up to 6 people. Zombie Rescue Squad from Pikok is a multiplayer Zombie survivor game. Alphabear Hustle, on the other hand, is a world game.
So as you can see, Snap Games has introduced a range of multiplayer mobile games across different categories. Snap Games will expand its developer partners across various genres and styles over the next few months so that it can “bring the best gaming experiences to the Snapchat community." We will be putting Snap Games to test. So stay tuned!
