Spotify Adjusts To India's Uneven Internet, Brings In Lite Version That Consumes Less Than 11 MB, But Only For Android Smartphones
Spotify Lite is now live in India after it was launched in a few countries over a month ago.
Spotify now has a Lite application (app) that takes up just 10MB storage space within your smartphones in India. There is another USP of the application which is it being custom-made to save mobile data in scenarios where affording extra data becomes a matter of concern.
The Spotify Lite is an obvious toned-down variant of the Spotify service, and the company states that the Lite version was incorporated to cater specifically to low data bandwidth geographies. As of now, the app has reached India where it can be downloaded via Google Play. Spotify Lite went live in a few countries, over a month ago.
The app joins the likes of Lite variants of other apps such as Skype, Facebook, Twitter, and Tinder – all of which are customized for a limited data/lesser phone internal storage scenario.
Full list of countries where Spotify Lite are available are:
India, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
At this point in time, it is worth remembering that Spotify came to India in March this year, and with the Lite version now official in the country, the otherwise unreachable geographies could also look at the popular music streaming service. Spotify Lite is available for download from here. It requires Android 4.3 or higher to run within Android smartphones.
