TikTok video: Man arrested for dancing while wielding sword and scaring people in Pune

Wakad police arrested a man having a past criminal history for wielding a sword and scaring people while dancing to a TikTok video. Here’s what happened:

Wakad police arrested a 23-year Deepak Dhakale, a resident of Rahatani, for wielding a sword and scaring people. A case has been booked with a police station falling under the jurisdiction of Pimpri-Chinchwad police.

According to a complaint filed with Wakad police station, the accused was seen openly striking poses in a public place with a weapon in his hand. As elections are in progress, the police have also issued prohibitory orders against carrying weapons openly in public places.

In the video that was also shared on many WhatsApp groups, Dhakale was reportedly dancing to the tune of Marathi song ‘Vadhiv Distay Rao.’ The police seized a 71.5-cm long sickle from Dhakale, which he had bought from a local market to shoot the video.

Last week, an unknown person tipped off Dhakale’s video to police after which the action was taken. Wakad police station constable M B Gengaje lodged a First Information Report (FIR).

"The arrested person has a past petty offences record. The video was made to scare citizens living in Rahatani,” Senior Inspector Satish Mane of Wakad police station said. “The accused is seen walking with a sickle in a public place. We arrested him”

“He claimed he did the video to create fear in the locality like the villains in films. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Maharashtra police and Arms Act," Mane added.

Police booked Dhakale under sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act and produce him before a court that remanded him to judicial custody of 14 days.

Earlier this year, Dhakale was almost booked in another incident for throwing acid. Last year, he was booked for injuring an individual using a weapon.

Last month, the Madras High Court had imposed a ban on TikTok over concerns of "pornographic and inappropriate content" being made available through it. However, the ban was later lifted with the condition that the platform should not be used to host obscene videos.
