Truecaller reaches 10 lakh paid users, adds new spam blocking features
Truecaller said it added several new spam blocking features to the app for its premium subscribers. Truecaller also said it crossed 10 lakh premium users
Truecaller said it added several new spam blocking features to the app for its premium subscribers. Truecaller also revealed it crossed more than 10 lakh paid subscribers on the app. These features are limited to the paid version of the app and Truecaller said it is rolling out those new features to all its users worldwide. Commenting on the launch, Truecaller co-founder and CEO Alan Mamedi had this to say:
"We are happy to see this growth, and it makes us proud that users value the benefits of our Premium features. We are also excited to announce these new upgrades that will help us add even more value to our growing Premium users and help them make their communication more safe and efficient," said Alan Mamedi, co-founder and CEO of Truecaller.
10 lakh paid users
Truecaller's new spam-blocking features include automatically updating and blocking top spammers in your region. At the moment, these new spam blocking features of Truecaller's premium version are limited to Android users. More details are awaited in terms of their rollout for iOS users. Truecaller said its Premium Gold subscription service would also offer the upgraded features under its plan.
Truecaller's new spam blocking features
As part of this upgrade, Truecaller's premium automatically block top spammers, by region. The new update is also designed to prevent hidden, foreign numbers automatically. Truecaller users can now also block strangers and phone numbers that they have not added in their phonebook. To crackdown on Telemarketers, Truecaller update will now block calls from 140-series numbers that belong to telemarketers.
Privacy concerns
Last month, there were reports that personal data of Truecaller users are readily available to purchase on the Internet for Rs 1.5 lakh, with one user accusing Truecaller of selling their data to Telemarketers. Responding to those allegations, Truecaller had said that it did not sell his data. In a blog post, Truecaller had said that some users might be abusing the platform to collect phone numbers, which is a violation of the company's Terms of Service.
Truecaller has more than 100 million daily active users in India. Earlier this year, Truecaller started storing the data of its users locally "to ensure transparency and provide faster and more reliable services."
