WhatsApp beat TikTok to become number one app worldwide in September

WhatsApp was the most downloaded app worldwide in September, ranking above ByteDance owned TikTok. In August, however, TikTok was the most-downloaded app.

Research firm Sensor Tower has published its list of top apps worldwide for September 2019 by downloads. As per the data, WhatsApp was the most downloaded app worldwide in September. In August, however, TikTok was the most-downloaded app, ranking above WhatsApp. But that swiftly changed with TikTok losing its top position to WhatsApp over the course of a month.

WhatsApp was the most downloaded mobile app worldwide for September 2019. Sensor Tower data shows WhatsApp had close to 68 million installs in September. In September, the most number of downloads for WhatsApp was from India at 34 per cent, followed by Indonesia at 4 per cent.

TikTok was the second most installed mobile app worldwide in September. TikTok achieved more than 60 million installs. The countries with the most significant number of TikTok installs were India at 44 per cent, followed by the US at 8 per cent. Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram rounded out the top five most installed apps worldwide for the month, reveals Sensor Tower data.

In September, WhatsApp was the most-download app on Play Store. When it came to App store, WhatsApp was ranked below YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, at number 4. But overall, WhatsApp led the charts in terms of download across categories in September. On Play Store, the Messenger app secured the number 2 spot. In August, Messenger ranked below TikTok and WhatsApp on Play Store. Overall, Messenger was third-most-downloaded application in September by downloads.

YouTube was the most downloaded app on the App Store. However, it was nowhere to be found in the top 10 list for Google Play Store downloads, further affecting YouTube's overall ranking. Overall, YouTube ranked at number 6, just above SHAREit, Likee, Snapchat and Wish.
