Zomato to introduce tamper-proof tapes after video of a delivery man eating out of boxed orders goes viral

A viral video circulating on social media shows a delivery person eating food out of boxed orders. Acknowledging the video, Zomato declared that they would be introducing tamper-proof tapes as a precautionary measure.

After, the food delivery app Zomato obtained the Indian Drone-delivery start-up TechEagle, in order to deliver food through drones, a video of a delivery man eating out of boxed orders has been going viral on the internet. In the video, the man can be seen opening up a packet of food, eating from it and then quickly resealing it back. 

The issue has raised many questions on social media that have left many customers worried as it raises questions about food safety and tampering. 

After the video was retweeted by many netizens, the company acknowledged the possibility of the delivery man tampering with the packed food on his way and as a result, stated that Zomato will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes that will be used as a precautionary measure in order to prevent these incidents in the near future.

Further, the food delivery app also assured that they will educate delivery personnel which comprise of more than 1.5 lakh partners to bring in issues as such to the company's notice. 

Reacting to the viral video that has been circulating on the internet, Zomato has issued a detailed statement which says, 

“A few hours ago, we came across a video of a delivery executive in a Zomato t-shirt, carrying a Zomato delivery bag, eating food out of boxed orders and replacing each one post resealing them, back into the delivery bag. The video suggests that he consumed some of the food meant for delivery to users, on his way to the drop points.”

Last week ago or so, Zomato announced that they have acquired TechEagle which is an Indian drone delivery start-up which will make it easier to deliver food, within a shorter period of time. The announcement was made soon after the rights and regulations were enabled for commercial usage of the drones.
