Rumors that Apple is working on at least two more iPad models for 2019 have been doing the rounds for a while now. A new leaked document doing the rounds of the Internet further corroborates these rumors. The leaked document titled “Apple Software Development Resources” which is apparently meant for use by Apple employees, its engineering team, retailers and contractors, suggests Apple is working on two more iPad models, with the codenames A2068 and A2198. The said iPad models are said to start shipping sometime in October – and Apple may announce them at its September 10 iPhone 11 event.

Core hardware specifics do not make a mention in the leaked document, but it does reveal the software side of things. Unsurprisingly, the upcoming iPad models will ship with iPadOS 13 out-of-the-box. The leaked document also suggests that while the A2068 will be an entry-level iPad, the A2198 will be successor to the flagship iPad Pro – an iPad that Apple likes to market as a thorough laptop replacement. Chances are the A2068 model may be successor to the sixth generation base iPad.

An iPad for everyone

Apple announced the 7.9-inch iPad Mini and the 10.5-inch iPad Air in March. The iPad Mini and iPad Air focus largely on bringing the tried and trusted hallmarks of an iPad to an entry-level segment – so more people will possibly be able to use them. Which is also possibly why Apple brought Apple Pencil support to both its new iPad models.

Both the models are powered by Apple’s A12 Bionic processor and boast of “up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi‑Fi, watching video, or listening to music; up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network.” Both the models have an 8MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera. Both have dual speakers. Both the new iPads keep Apple’s signature True Tone screens as well.

While it’s always interesting to see what Apple does with its budget iPads, it would be particularly interesting to see what Apple does with the iPad Pro successor. Apple literally re-made the iPad Pro last year with a near edge-to-edge design and Face ID, in addition to updated hardware.
