Apple has updated the fourth-generation Apple Watch with a new fifth-generation version that brings always-on display functionality to the Apple Watch for the first time. There are some new finishes, as well as a new compass app that now comes pre-installed on the Apple Watch Series 5. But if you were expecting a giant leap in core technology, well, the Apple Watch Series 5 is not it. Good that Apple is keeping the pricing a constant – which means the new Apple Watch costs just as much as the older Apple Watch. Interestingly, the Apple Watch Series 4 has been taken off from the Apple online store, hinting that Apple might just have discontinued it. Which seems fair.
In case you’re wondering, here are the new Apple Watch Series 5 India prices:
-GPS: starting from Rs 40,900
-GPS + Cellular: starting from Rs 49,900
Apple has also updated the prices of the Apple Watch Series 3 in India. While the GPS model now starts at Rs 20,900, the GPS+Cellular model of the Apple Watch Series 3 will now sell for Rs 29,900 in India.
Apple Watch Series 5 India availability
The Apple Watch Series 5 will be available for buying in India from September 27.
Apple Watch Series 5 specs and features
The Apple Watch Series 5 is an incremental update to last year’s Apple Watch Series 4 that comes with an all-new always-on Retina display, new titanium/ceramic finish, international emergency calling and compass built in. The core hardware remains the same as the Apple Watch Series 4.
The new highlight will be software though. The Apple Watch Series 5 will ship with watchOS 6 that will bring, among other things, a dedicated app store to Apple’s wearable. Some of the other new features of watchOS 6 include a menstrual cycle tracking app, a noise app for detecting sound levels that could negatively impact hearing, a new trends tab in the activity app for tracking long-term progress, and new Watch faces for customization. Of course, all of this will be available on the older Apple Watch also.
