Facebook extends support for hand tracking on Oculus Quest VR headset

Facebook announced its plan for VR and mapping the world at its sixth annual Oculus Connect Conference at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California. During the conference, Facebook spent a lot of time discussing the future of Oculus and how it wants to change the way people interact within virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

One of the major highlights, people have spent $100 million on the Oculus store while 20 per cent of total revenue has been generated from Oculus Quest alone.  Quest is a VR headset created by the folks over at Oculus VR within Facebook.

"In order for VR to truly transform the way we live, work and connect with each other, we need to build a sustainable ecosystem — from action-packed games and artistic experiences, to cutting-edge training apps and beyond," Facebook said.

Oculus Link

Oculus Quest also received a major upgrade. Facebook announced Oculus Link, which enabled Quest and gaming PC users to access content from the Rift platform. Facebook said it would release beta software in November. Supporting USB-C cables, Facebook revealed its plan to release a 'premium cable with maximum throughput to run Rift content' later in 2019. It will feature a longer cord so that users can move easily in VR.

Facebook extended support for hand tracking on Oculus Quest. Interestingly, it doesn't even require any extra hardware. This way, Facebook is encouraging natural interaction with VR using your own hands on Oculus Quest.

Last but not least, Facebook also introduced 'Horizon.' Facebook describes Horizon as 'a new social experience in VR where you can build your own worlds with easy-to-use tools,' without requiring any coding skills.
