Not only is Samsung looking to bring all its smart mobile devices under the Galaxy umbrella, it may also be looking to unite them with its One UI. One UI, which was first announced at Samsung’s developer conference and is now rolling out for select premium devices like the Galaxy S9, will reportedly also feature in the company’s upcoming Galaxy Watch Active. Unlike its Android phones, One UI in Samsung’s next-generation smart wearables, will be based on Tizen.

A new set of renders have now leaked online, giving a first-hand look at the new and possibly improved user interface coming to a Galaxy Watch near you. The Galaxy Watch Active, purported successor to the Gear Sport, will likely be the first Samsung smart wearable to run One UI, if the leaked renders do come out to be true. Samsung will reportedly launch it on February 20 alongside the Galaxy S10 trio of phones and the Galaxy Buds.

The One UI, according to the renders, will bring in new watch faces as well as new fitness tracking features. Samsung seems to be working on its own take on Apple’s colorful activity rings found in the Apple Watch. Support for auto continuous heart-rate monitoring, and even more exercise forms are said to be on the cards.

There is a downside amid all this though. Unlike its immediate predecessor, the Galaxy Watch Active will reportedly come sans a rotating bezel. One of the key features of Samsung’s Tizen-based smartwatches has been their rotating bezels that are so seamlessly integrated with the devices’ software that you don’t even need to touch their screen for day to day usage. Things will be different in the Galaxy Watch Active leaving every task dependent on actual touch-based interactions. That’s also possibly one reason why Samsung is going for all-new UI on this one.

Rumoured specs of the Galaxy Watch Active include a 1.1-inch AMOLED display and a 236mAh battery: both smaller than the outgoing model. The Galaxy Watch Active is further said to come with an Exynos 9110 processor with 4GB of storage. Connectivity options will reportedly include Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and Wi-Fi.

The smartwatch will also reportedly charge differently, with a horizontal pad as opposed to the 90-degree angle required in the case of the Gear Sport. This falls in line with reports that say that the Galaxy S10 will come with 9W reverse wireless charging feature which means that the phone will be able to act as a wireless charging mat for wirelessly charging compatible devices like smartwatches and smartphones. It’s safe to say you can add the Galaxy Watch Active to that list as well.
