In the complex world of patents, anything is possible (at least theoretically) making technology a sci-fi dream that fascinates everybody. Similar is the case with South Korean electronics giant Samsung. According to a recent patent published in the US, the company may be planning to introduce foldable drones in the future. But this is certainly not the first time we have heard anything about Samsung and its interest in devices that can fly. Earlier this year, there were reports citing another patent awarded to Samsung that it may be working on a drone-like screen that can fly on its own.

According to DroneBelow, the patent highlights a possibility of foldable drone that could essentially be a flying accessory for Samsung Galaxy smartphones lineup.

Although there is absolutely no information with regards to its commercial availability, the patent suggests that it could feature folding arms and camera, in addition to sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer and a barometer.

This is what the patent document has to say:

“Accordingly, an aspect of the present disclosure provides a transformable drone in which an arm for fixing a propeller can be folded and unfolded against the main body (or an airframe) which may provide a transformable unmanned aerial vehicle which combines portability and flight performance through a transformable main body (or an airframe).”

The device can be wirelessly controlled using a smartphone, PC, washing machine, wearable device or any electronic device.

Recently, Samsung unveiled its foldable display smartphone that in fact looks a lot like a full-sized tablet when unfolded. When folded, it ends up looking like one thick slab having a shape of a smartphone. In a nutshell, it sports 7.3 inches full tablet-sized display that can be converted (or folded) into a smartphone.
