Samsung is streamlining its portfolio so everything falls under one Galaxy umbrella. The Gear smartwatch was recently rebranded as the Galaxy Watch, and soon, Samsung may rebrand its Gear Icon line-up of wireless earbuds calling it simply, the Galaxy Buds. Reports that Samsung may do that originated late last year when the company trademarked the name Galaxy Buds. And now, its Galaxy Buds, have passed the FCC which means only thing.
The Galaxy Buds seem to be ready for prime-time. The first-generation product in the line-up, that will ideally replace the Gear Icon X, should be called just that. Much like the Galaxy Watch. But this is something only time will tell.
But considering that Samsung is gearing to launch the Galaxy S10 on February 20, hopefully we may not have to wait for long. There is a very high possibility that Samsung may launch the Galaxy buds alongside the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 Lite on February 20.
Hardware specifications of the Galaxy Buds are scarce for now, although some reports hint at Bluetooth 5 support and improved battery life over the outgoing model. The outgoing model charged through a case via USB Type-C, and something similar will be expected from the Galaxy Buds as well. Chances are Samsung may shrink the size of the charging case accessory this year, so it becomes all the more mobile and convenient to tag along.
We may also finally get to hear more about the Galaxy Home, Samsung’s vase-like smart speaker with three stout metal legs, that has been designed to take on the Apple HomePod. Even though it was announced in August, alongside the Galaxy Note 9, the Galaxy Home is still coming soon at a still undisclosed price tag. Moreover, Samsung is also rumoured to be working on a Galaxy Home Mini, an affordable – possibly entry-level – smart speaker that will compete with the likes of the Amazon Echo and the Google Home and Google Home Mini. We may get to hear something about that as well at Samsung’s February 20 Galaxy S10 keynote event.
