Android 9.0 OS Update Now Rolling Out for Multiple Sony Xperia Smartphones: Check If Yours Is On The Eligibility List
Android 9.0 rolling out to your favourite Sony Xperia smartphones now.
A host of Sony Xperia mid-rangers are now receiving Android 9.0 (Pie) OS update over-the-air (OTA). If you are a n Xperia user, then do check your handsets on a regular basis for the new software upgrade. These devices are the Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ3, Xperia X22 Compact, and the Xperia XZ2 Premium.
As per Xperia blog, users of the above handsets could check their smartphones for the OS update bearing build number 52.O.A.3.84. To manually check for the new firmware, navigate to Settings > About Phone > OS Updates > Check for Updates.
There are certain specific enhancements such as the Sony Camera Interface applicable only for the Xperia XZ2 Premium; this is in addition to all the regular enhancements that Google's Android 9.0 OS update offers.
Not only the Xperia XZ2 Premium family, but the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact smartphone have also seemingly started receiving Android 9.0 OTA. Users of these devices could check for the new firmware possessing build number 47.2.A.0.306 (as per an Android Police report). The Sony enhanced camera interface should also be an enhancement here, in tandem with HDR enhancement; along with the usual Android Pie upgrade features.
At this juncture, it is also worth noting that this rollout could be a phased one and is likely to take a while before ensuring complete reachability. As far as new updates introduced by Android 9.0 are concerned, the below aspects are worth looking forward to:

As of now, the above smartphones run Android 8.0 (Oreo) out of the box; hence, it is worth checking out for the new Google Pie enhancements.
In related developments, Motorola's mid-range Moto X4 is also seemingly being seeded Android 9.0. This is potentially indicative of the new firmware rolling out for the older Moto 2 handsets as well.
