It looks like Google’s Project Treble is resulting in the faster rollout of Android 9 Pie software update onto more devices. Previously, we saw devices such as Xiaomi Mi A2, LG G7 One and Motorola One Power receive over-the-air (OTA) Android Pie software update in India. Now, one more device is in the process of software upgradation: Nokia 7.1. In a realted news, XDA reports that some Mi A2 Lite users have started receiving Android Pie update. Many Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite users have been hoping for the update ever since it rolled out for the Mi A2 users earlier this month.
Again, both the Mi A2 Lite and Nokia 7.1 devices fall under Google’s Android One initiative. And as we noted previously, Android Pie software update is first rolling out to phones falling under the Android One program or running the stock Android software out of the box, which makes sense given that it requires less time to restructure core Android libraries, unlike custom skins. We take a look at how one can get started with Android Pie software experience on Xiaomi Mi A2 lite and Nokia 7.1:

A couple of weeks ago, Android Pie beta program kicked off for Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite users. As per the XDA report, it looks like Xiaomi is more or less done fine-tuning its software for the best possible experience. An XDA user shared screenshots of the software rollout on Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. As per these screenshots, the software update incorporates the most-recent November 2018 security patch. What’s more, it also brings support for FM Radio in addition to standard features like navigation gestures and adaptive battery.

HMD Global product chief Juho Sarvikas announced that Nokia 7.1 now runs Android 9 Pie. And since it’s an Android One device, it manages to deliver a stock Android software out of the box. The update brings improvements in terms of design and navigation gestures. Similar to Xiaomi Mi A2, it delivers features like adaptive battery. Folks over at Nokia were testing Android Pie update since October.
Nokia 7.1 is expected to arrive in India early next month. In fact, Nokia is hosting a launch event on December 6 in New Delhi. If that happens, we can expect Nokia 7.1 users to be able to upgrade to Android Pie as soon as possible.
