Apple will launch the iPhone 11 on September 10
Apple is now sending out invites to the media, for an “Apple Special Event” scheduled for September 10 at the iconic Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California
It’s official. Apple will launch its next batch of iPhones, aka the iPhone 11 lineup, on September 10. Apple is now sending out invites to the media, for an “Apple Special Event” scheduled for September 10 at the iconic Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California where it will launch the next iPhone(s). Although the invite doesn’t explicitly mention what’s in store, we all know what Apple’s special events in September have in store. As is customary, the invite drops subtle hints about what to expect – this year Apple is hyping innovation and a burst of colour. What all that means is for you to guess.
Just like last year, Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones, replacing the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Rumor has it that Apple may call them iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The Pro variants are also said to support Apple Pencil, a first for any iPhone.
The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will reportedly be powered by Apple’s new A13 chip. All the three new models will reportedly have the same screen size and resolution as the outgoing models – with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors retaining OLED panels, while the iPhone XR successor will still pack LCD. Apple may be looking to change the haptics as well this time round with a new taptic engine. Although the exact functionality of the new taptic engine is unknown, chances are it would bring some changes to Apple’s haptic touch.
The current-generation iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both have the same dual rear cameras. Their successors are said to sport three rear cameras. The third sensor in the iPhone XS (and iPhone XS Max) successor will reportedly be wide-angle and will be also able to “capture more pixels so Apple software could, for example, automatically repair a video or photo to fit in a subject that may have been accidentally cut off from the initial shot,” according to a recent Bloomberg report. The feature may be called smart frame and it may be exclusive to the wide-angle lens, according to a separate report.
The front-facing camera is also said to be getting an update on the iPhone 11 with the ability to support slow-motion video recording at 120fps.
The next iPhone is also said to stick with Lightning for charging, data syncing and audio out, and not USB Type-C although rumor has it that Apple may be looking to bring a reverse wireless charging feature – taking a page from Samsung’s book – so users will be able to charge supported devices like the AirPods through it.
Apple is also reportedly working on a slew of Mac laptops (including a new 16-inch MacBook Pro) and new iPads (including a successor to the flagship iPad Pro) but if history is anything to go by, the Cupertino major may not launch them alongside the iPhone 11. What could launch alongside the iPhone 11 though is the rumored Apple Watch Series 5. Watch this space for our full coverage of Apple’s September 10 special event to know more about the next iPhone.
