Asus India has finally taken the wraps off their ROG gaming smartphone at Rs 69,999. Asus ROG Phone sale starts today via Flipkart. Asus also announced several offers including a no-cost EMI plan that starts at Rs 5,833/month across all debit and credit cards. Flipkart will offer its complete mobile protection plan Rs 999 with a free pickup/drop service. Asus has also partnered with Jio for data benefits worth Rs 5,000.

As for specs rundown, the Asus ROG Phone sports a 6-inch 1080p AMOLED screen. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 processor, Adreno 630 GPU for graphics and up to 8 gigs of RAM. It houses 12MP+8MP dual rear cameras and an 8MP selfie camera. Inside is up to 512GB internal storage. It packs a 4,000mAh battery. Now that we've got the specs out of the way, let's see if the reasons below are enough to excite the gamer in you.

The Experience

Over the past few months, we have seen an insane number of smartphones launching with the identical specs, and yes, they all seem to have enough to be your ideal gaming companion. But again, the ideal gaming smartphone has to carry much more than a feature-heavy spec sheet. The overall gaming experience also plays a very important role. That’s where the ROG Phone seems to have enough to stand out in its small, little wonderland.

When we say experience, it’s not about a hardware performance or synthetic benchmark results. The way you interact with the device including sound, visuals, ergonomics, a design of the phone - all come into the picture. For example, no matter how impressive the specifications or actual performance of the device are, if the device does not sit well in your hands that's certainly a strike one for true gamers.

Of course, the experience differs from user to user. The point that we are trying to make here is that the gaming segment might have some unique, special requirements that smartphone brands in India are yet to touch upon, it’s possible that these requirements might be different from that of a non-gamer consumer. We elaborate more in the subsequent paragraphs.

Gaming accessories

Again, when we say gaming accessories, we have to think much beyond the standard input/output peripherals or audio accessories disguised as the gaming-centric ones. Along with the ROG Phone, folks over at Asus talked about these ROG Phone accessories and some of them go up on the device itself. Together, they are all supposed to improve your gaming experience. What are these accessories, you may ask? Let’s see.

Gamevice Mobile Controller

This is a portable gaming controller that goes right onto either side of the ROG Phone. You get the joysticks and console-like gaming experience. And yes, it resembles PlayStation Vita to some extent. Watch it below:

Asus Professional Dock

Asus ROG Phone can connect to Asus’ own dock to expand your gaming onto a big screen. The phone should act as your computer and given the processing hardware, you are unlikely to run into a severe performance crisis.

Asus TwinView Dock

What steals the show in our opinion is Asus’ TwinView dock that simply lets you expand your gaming experience to another screen.

These are the kind of accessories that together impact one’s gaming experience significantly. That’s also how Asus ROG phone differs from other phones with similar specs out there.

It’s ROG!

So far, Asus has kept both their smartphones and gaming laptop/desktop computers businesses separate from each other. While smartphones are taken care of by the Zenfone lineup, Asus’s gaming laptops and computers fall under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) moniker. Over the past few years, the brand ROG has earned a fairly good name, trust and presence in the market. With the help of ROG Phone accessories, Asus may be trying to fill the gap between these two divisions, which will eventually help gamers to get the best possible gaming experience.

If you are a PUBG enthusiast, you should definitely get your hands on the Asus ROG Phone. And as we demonstrated earlier, you don't even need an emulator to be able to play PUBG Mobile PC. Instead, all you can do is connect the ROG Phone to Asus Professional Dock and enjoy the same PUBG experience onto a big screen.
