The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 is getting a Rs 1,000 price cut in India. The price cut applies to all the three variants of the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and are effective immediately on Flipkart. This means, the base 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version of the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 will now sell for as low as Rs 9,999, while the top-end version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage (and updated cameras) will be available for Rs 13,999. The 4GB RAM and 64GB version of the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 will now sell for Rs 11,999.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 was globally launched in India in April last year and was notably the first Asus phone to run pure Android software out-of-the-box. Its successor, called the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2, was launched recently in India at a starting price of Rs 12,999 for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage version going all the way to Rs 16,999 for the top-end version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. There’s also a 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant that will sell for Rs 14,999.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 garnered rave reviews for its all-round value, and came out as a viable alternative to popular Xiaomi phones like the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Asus launching the ZenFone Max Pro M2 at the exact same price this year clearly gives out the impression that the company is in no mood to settle. The ZenFone Max Pro M2 brings meaningful changes such as an updated design and specs, but at the same time it still runs pure Android software – something which was the main highlight of its predecessor phone as well.

Come to think of it, the price cut on the ZenFone Max Pro M1 isn’t all that surprising now that we have the ZenFone Max Pro M2 vying for buyers’ attention at similar price points. There could be a possibility that Asus would discontinue the ZenFone Max Pro M1 in the days to come, but there is no clarity on this yet.

“Early last year we had shared our strategy – firstly, to provide the best technology that will work in India and secondly, to make the smartphone available at an attractive pricing. Today, we are delighted that the strategy has worked well and the ZenFone product line is now well established. More so, ZenFone Max Pro M1 has been awarded and appreciated as the best in its segment smartphone. This year, we promise to continue to grow, learn, improve and are committed to accelerating our growth.  We will work harder to make ZenFones the most preferred smartphone choice for the Indian Consumer,” Dinesh Sharma who is head, mobile business at Asus India said while announcing the price cut.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, to recall, comes with a 5.99-inch 1080p+ display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor under the hood. It ships with dual rear cameras (13MP+5MP rear and 8MP front) with the top-tier 6GB RAM version packing an updated 16MP+5MP rear and 16MP front setup. The phone is backed by a massive 5,000mAh battery and supports fast charging.
