The BSNL Rs 1699 annual plan now has increased validity. This is for 455 days – up considerably from the earlier 365 days. This seemingly offers an opportunity for people to test out BSNL’s full-fledged 4G services when these are live. There would no need to port-in to the network after the full-fledged launch of BSNL 4G.

BSNL Rs 1699 plan

As far as the Rs 1699 plan offering increased validity is concerned, it seems to be applicable to select prepaid customers in select telecom circles. As of now, it is applicable to select customers in the Karnataka circle. The plan also offers 250 minutes of free voice calls per day, along with 2GB data per day. There would also be 100 free text messages in a day as well.

BSNL is sending out messages in the above regard, to select customers. We received a message from the state-led telco on our BSNL number. At this juncture, the telco has clearly stated that it would be “limited time offer”.  You also would have received messages from BSNL, in case you are an eligible customer (prepaid) to receive the extended validity period with the Rs 1699 plan.

In related news, BSNL recently started trending on social media (Twitter to be precise) with hashtags such as “Switch to BSNL” and” BSNL 4G”. These clearly signified the transition of the telco from 3G to 4G network offerings. This comes at a time when operators such as Reliance Jio have started imposing Interconnect Usage Charges (IUC) on customers for every outgoing call made to other operators. These charges, as set by TRAI, are 6 paise per minute. Now the telco has also been testing 4G services. Even newer SIM-cards – for both newer customers as well as port-in ones are 4G-enabled.
