BSNL is now said to be offering cashback for landline users and those making calls through the fixed-line services. The cashback amounts to 6 paise for voice calls that extends more than 5 minutes. This comes amidst the revival package for the telco announced by the central government recently.
BSNL's new offers
Now, if you use BSNL’s fixed-line services including that of broadband to make voice calls extending more than 5 minutes then the 6 paise cashback would be added. This cashback could likely be reflected in customers’ final bill. Do check if you are getting these 6 paise cashbacks.
The 6 paise figure also represents TRAI’s Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC) that an operator has to pay another where a voice call terminates. This has become a huge topic of debate across the Indian telecom circle. Reliance Jio has already started levying IUC for outgoing calls made to non-Jio networks. Post this, the telco also came out all-in-one plans encompassing IUC thereby resulting in calls being made free completely. These plans also include free IUC minutes.
In response to IUC, other incumbent telcos viz Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have stated that they would not levy 6 paise per minute IUC on customers for now. There is also discussion about the Bill-and Keep (BAK) regime that is set to come into force from 1 January 2020. Tsi makes IUC completely free. TRAI recently sent out consultation papers to industry leaders to gauge their opinion on extending this BAK regime date Jio and the Broadband India Forum (BIF) have already replied to YTRAI stating that they oppose any move to extend the BAK date.
In related BSNL news, the telco has also recently made calls to MTNL numbers free. This also comes, for the uninitiated, after the merger of the latter with the former was announced. BSNL calls to Delhi and Mumbai, where MTNL is fledging, would now be free.
