The Reliance JioPhone which is an inexpensive offering also comes with inexpensive prepaid recharge plans. These are sub-Rs 100 offerings. If you are a first-time JioPhone user, then it should definitely be worth checking these plans out.
The Rs 49 Jio Phone plan + IUC
To start off with, these plans starting from as low as Rs 49 per month have surfaced. The Rs 49 plan – custom-made for the JioPhone is now live. This offers a validity of 28 days. USP of this plan is its 1 GB data offering. Then, there are free-unlimited calls to Jio-numbers. For non-Jio voice calls users should sell out 6 paise per minute as mandated by TRAI (defined by operator service). Nonetheless, Jio also offers custom IUC packs starting from as low as Rs 10 that offer free IUC minutes as well.
Hene, even if you subscribe to this Rs 10 IUC plan, your total monthly recharge would be Rs 59 which should potentially work out if most of your friends/relatives have Jio numbers. Finally, the Rs 49 scheme also requires users to top up for additional IUC minutes in case all calls are to be free.
At this juncture, Reliance Jio’s JioPhones have turned out to be popular, and there are rumours about a next-gen variant of these inexpensive offerings being on the cards as well.
In related news, as far as IUC is concerned, TRAI recently released a consultation paper seeking industry insiders’ opinion on extending the zero-termination charge (bill and keep – BAK) regime even after the 1 January 2020 deadline. Both Jio, as well as the Broadband India Forum, replied stating that they were averse to witnessing a postponement in the BAK regime implementation.
