The Honor V20, the first ever phone to be announced with a punch-hole style selfie camera is now official. Although Honor had first announced the V20 in early December, the announcement was more like a brief teaser of sorts with the company keeping most of the phone’s design and hardware specs a closely guarded secret. On Wednesday, Honor took the wraps off the phone in question, in all its totality. The Honor V20 is set to be launched globally – and quite possibly for the Indian market as well -- as the Honor View 20 in January 2019.

The USP of the Honor V20, as expected, is its 6.4-inch all-view display which is made possible through a punch-hole selfie camera setup. The goal here is to offer maximum screen real-estate by punching a hole in the display and incorporating an in-screen selfie camera that otherwise would take up a lot of space. This selfie camera has a resolution of 25MP.

The Honor V20, according to Honor, also features an “industry-first 48MP rear camera with Sony IMX586 sensor” which when coupled with “the AI computing power and graphic processing power enabled by the dual-ISP and dual-NPU of Kirin 980 chipset, will automatically perform multi-frame image processing to create high-definition images.” The Honor V20, in addition, also has a secondary TOF camera for 3D depth mapping.

The Kirin 980 is notably Huawei’s top-tier 7nm-based chipset that is also found inside the company’s crazy triple rear camera phone, aka the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. The Honor V20 further packs up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. Honor will also be offering the Honor V20 in a special edition designed in partnership with Italian luxury fashion house Moschino. This limited-edition version will pack 8GB and 256GB storage.

Thye dual-SIM Honor V20 runs Android Pie-based EMUI 9, and is backed by a massive 4,000mAh battery. The phone also supports advanced GPS for more accurate GPS tracking as well as liquid cooling for extended gaming sessions.

In terms of design, the Honor V20 continues Huawei and Honor’s signature gradient glass finish and will be available in a choice of colors including red and blue. The Honor V20 tries to distinguish itself from other Honor and Huawei all-glass phones – including the recently launched Huawei Nova 4 that also comes with a punch-hole style selfie camera -- through distinct V-shaped patterns on the back.

The Honor V20 has been launched in China at a starting price of CNY 2,999 for the base 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant going all the way to CNY 3,499 for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Moschino edition of the Honor V20 has been launched at CNY 3,999. Honor will globally launch the Honor V20 as the Honor View 20 on January 22. The phone is expected to land in India at around the same time, although Honor India is yet to formally announce a timeline.
