The Redmi 6A was the best-selling phone in India in Q1 2019, according to data released by Counterpoint Research. Something similar will be expected from the Redmi 7A as well. One look at its spec sheet, and you’ll know, the Redmi 7A has every ingredient in the book to better its predecessor, and competition, primarily the Realme C2 and Samsung Galaxy M10. Not only does the Redmi 7A bring a big battery and splash-resistance to the entry-level phone segment, it could also be the best camera phone at its price point.

The Redmi 7A comes with a 5.45-inch 720p+ LCD display and an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor clubbed with 2GB RAM and up to 32GB storage. The phone runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 software and packs a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. There’s a sizeable 4,000mAh battery inside. The Redmi 7A has a 5MP front camera.

It is still all plastic though and there’s still no fingerprint scanner here (although the phone does support face unlock).

Xiaomi has made some India-specific changes to the Redmi 7A.

-- Unlike the Redmi 7A China variant, the Redmi 7A that will be sold in India will come with a 12MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX486 image sensor – the same sensor that’s found in the company’s more expensive Mi A2 and Redmi Note 7 phones.

-- Xiaomi is touting the fact that the Redmi 7A India variant comes with a built-in antenna for wireless FM radio playback.

-- Xiaomi will be also offering 2-year warranty on the Redmi 7A – which is a first for any Xiaomi product in India.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 7A in India at a starting price of Rs 5,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, going all the way to Rs 6,199 for the top-end variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. For a limited period – until July end – Xiaomi will be selling the Redmi 7A at a reduced price of Rs 5,799 and Rs 5,999 respectively – to commemorate its 5-year anniversary in India. The Redmi 7A will be available for buying in India from Flipkart and Mi.com/in, at least initially.
