Oppo spin-off brand Realme announced its official foray into China on Wednesday – after having left quite an impression on the Indian market. Realme is kicking off proceedings with the Realme X – a lower mid-tier phone that packs an AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 48MP rear camera with Sony’s IMX586 sensor and a 16MP pop-up selfie shooter, and 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging. The Realme X has been launched in China at a starting price of CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs 15,400) for the base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, while the top-end model with whopping 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will retail for CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs 18,400).

The Realme X boasts of a gradient design language like the Realme 3 Pro and Realme 3 – the phone will be available in Steam White and Punk Blue. Underneath, it’s all plastic though, just like the Realme 3 Pro and Realme 3.

Speaking of specs, the Realme X has a 6.53-inch 1080p+ AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection up-top. The Realme X ditches a conventional fingerprint scanner for an optical in-display solution, similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro/OnePlus 7. The phone is powered by a 2.2Ghz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage which is non-expandable. The dual-SIM Realme X runs Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 software.

The Realme X further packs a 3,765mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 flash charge support which is claimed to top the battery from 0-55 per cent in just 30 minutes.

On to the optics, the Realme X has a dual camera system on the rear consisting of a 48MP (Sony IMX 586) sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Realme X comes with a 16MP camera with a Sony IMX471 sensor. Hallmark Realme features such as Nightscape (which is Realme’s take on the night mode we’ve come to see on many phones lately) and Chroma Boost (used for achieving greater dynamic range and more balanced exposure under different lighting scenarios) are available on the Realme X.

Realme has launched the Realme X at a starting price of CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs 15,400) for the base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, while the top-end model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage will retail for CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs 18,400). There’s also a version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage which will sell for CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs 16,400). There’s no word when (and if) Realme will launch the Realme X in India.
