Sony Mobile Defocuses And Withdraws From India, No More New Sony Xperia Mobiles Now
Sony Mobile's focus areas are now limited to just a few regions of the world.
Sony Mobiles, known famously for its Xperia range of premium smartphones, might now have left India for good as part of a smartphone business transformation strategy. The company has stated that it has now defocused don certain countries of the world while conducting a sales, manufacturing, and engineering review.
These regions include the likes of India that falls into Sony’s Non-Focus and Defocussed Regions scheme of things, as part of a corporate strategy. This strategy has been represented in an official presentation slide by Sony which also indicates that countries like Australia, South America, North America, and Canada are also on Sony’s defocused and non-focus regions.
Sony has even stopped production within its China factory, while reducing outsourced design and transferring to Sony the corporate functions.
With non-focus regions for Sony having come to the fore, it is only imminent that you get to know which are the focus areas for the company now. These are the countries of Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and the whole of Europe. Hence, it is wise to assume that future smartphone launches from Sony would be limited to only these regions; rather than go global.
Finally, it is worth rewinding to the past with respect to the fact that Sony Mobiles were popular in India not too long ago; and its handsets such as Xperia SP, and the Xperia X managed to decently capture the imagination of smartphone buyers in the country. Ditto for the erstwhile Sony Ericcson handsets. For such loyalists, it should now be a matter of heartbreak and time to switch over to rival smartphone brands.
