Xiaomi Redmi 8 coming soon to India with dual cameras and more
Just like the Redmi 8A, chances are Xiaomi may globally launch the Redmi 8 also in India – unless of course, it launches it elsewhere first.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi 8A entry-level phone in India on Wednesday. During the launch keynote, which was hosted online, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain also teased the company’s next product – the Redmi 8. Although a tentative timeline of launch wasn’t mentioned, we’re probably looking at an October window, possibly around the same time that Xiaomi will bring the Redmi Note 8 Pro to India. Whatever be the case, the Redmi 8 will be Xiaomi’s next launch in India.
Just like the Redmi 8A, chances are Xiaomi may globally launch the Redmi 8 also in India – unless of course, it launches it elsewhere first. The phone in question has already leaked courtesy certification website TENAA, and the phone briefly shown by Manu Jain, falls well in line with what’s expected – we’re looking at a glossy aura design, in line with the Redmi 7, albeit with a vertical stripe in the middle like the Redmi 7A. This vertical stripe will house dual cameras and a fingerprint scanner. The front of the device isn’t shown in the teaser, but rumor mills have it that it would be similar to the one on the Redmi 7 – meaning a dot notch is in the cards.
Rumored specs of the Redmi 8 include a 6.26-inch HD+ or 720p+ display, 12MP+5MP dual rear camera combo, and 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. More details are awaited.
The Redmi 7 comes with a 6.26-inch 720p+ (HD+) display with a dot notch and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor and runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10. There’s a 4,000mAh battery under the hood with 5V/2A charging through micro-USB. There’s a dual camera on the rear consisting of a 12MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Redmi 7 comes with an 8MP front camera.
The Redmi 7 starts at a price of Rs 7,999 for the variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, going all the way to Rs 8,999 for the top-end variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
